This is a very rough ballpark only. Actual home insurance premiums vary widely by insurer, coverage and add-ons, deductible, location, home age and construction, and your claims history. Treat this as a starting point and get a real quote from a licensed insurer or broker.

Note: rebuild cost is not the same as the market or purchase price — it is the cost to reconstruct the home and excludes the land.

  • This is a rough order-of-magnitude estimate, not a quote. Real premiums depend on claims history, build type, roof age, distance to a hydrant, and each insurer’s appetite — factors no calculator can model.
  • Always get at least two actual quotes before budgeting on this number.

Frequently asked questions

How is this home insurance estimate calculated?+

It applies a flat average rate per $1,000 of your rebuild (replacement) cost. For example, a $400,000 rebuild cost at $3.50 per $1,000 works out to roughly $1,400 per year. This is a ballpark only and does not reflect any specific insurer’s pricing.

Is rebuild cost the same as the purchase price?+

No. Rebuild (or replacement) cost is what it would take to rebuild your home from the ground up — materials and labour — and excludes the value of the land. It is often quite different from the market or purchase price, sometimes lower, sometimes higher.

Why is my real quote different from this estimate?+

Actual premiums vary widely based on the insurer, your coverage limits and add-ons, your deductible, the home’s age, location, construction, and your claims history. Always get a real quote from a licensed broker or insurer.
